Contemporary Photography have created a Google maps Business View virtual tour for Frank O’Briens Traditional Irish Pub and Grocery which is located in the heritage town of Athy, County Kildare, Ireland.
Frank O’Briens has a shop front that has not changed in one hundred and thirty four years when the family first opened their doors. Frank continues to run the pub once owned by his grandfather with his daughter Judith.
At one time they sold tickets for passenger ships. Frank still has his grandfather’s ledger for one way tickets bought on credit for the “ferry” from Cobh to Baltimore back in the 1880s.
If you look closely you can still see the tie-up loops that the men would tie the reins to park the horse or donkey and cart, so they could fill up on coal or turf while the wives did their groceries, and later of course, reward themselves with ‘a pint of plain’.
